From 9–27 February, the course Data Analysis and Interpretation is underway at UW, giving students the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and skills in analyzing both quantitative and qualitative research.
The aim of the course is to provide students with a solid foundation in data analysis and the interpretation of results. Teaching is based on real-world examples from marine-related disciplines, and students also complete a small research project in which they analyze data and interpret their findings.
In the quantitative part of the course, students are introduced to a range of statistical methods, with a particular emphasis on the use of the R environment. Methods covered include descriptive statistics, statistical tests, regression analysis, and general linear models.
In the qualitative section, the focus is on the analysis of interviews and texts, while students are also introduced to the software program MAXQDA. The course also covers fundamental research concepts such as reliability and validity, and highlights the importance of visual data, including tables and figures.
Through the course, students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience that will be valuable in their further studies and future research work.
The course instructors are Dr. Matthias Kokorsch and Dr. Michelle Harris.
