The course Regional transformation and development: Sociological theories and practises, is starting today at UW.
The course will explore regional changes and development from socio-political and academic perspectives. It will draw on diverse, international examples, and students will receive practice- and conceptual-oriented classes that enables them to understand regional transformations. Students will contribute to discussions on regional development and also participate in development processes in collaboration with stakeholders.
The objectives of the course include enabling students to critically assess discourse on regional development and apply theoretical concepts related to regional transformation and development.
The course instructor is Dr. Joost Dessein, Associate Professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics at Ghent University in Belgium. Dr. Dessein holds a Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering and both a Master’s and PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology, all from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
