Lunch Lecture:Grímsson Fellowship - Writing a Science Fiction Novel in Ísafjörður, Iceland from a NASA Scientist

This time, the lunch lecture of the week will take place on a Wednesday!

Our guest is Sarah E. Hopkins, an aerospace engineer at NASA and a recipient of the Grímsson Fellowship. She works on NASA’s Artemis Program, which aims to return humans to the Moon, and is currently staying in Ísafjörður, where she is working on writing a science fiction novel.

Sarah E. Hopkins will talk about who she is and what the Grímsson Fellowship is. She will introduce the science fiction novel she is writing and discuss its themes and sources of inspiration. She will also outline the research questions she is exploring during her stay in Ísafjörður, Iceland. In addition, she will give a brief overview of the history of space exploration, the Artemis Program, and her work at NASA. The talk will conclude with time for questions.

Sarah E. Hopkins is from Huntsville, Alabama, USA. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Mississippi State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. In her professional work, she works for NASA on the Artemis Program, which aims to return humans to the Moon. Alongside her work at NASA, she is writing a science fiction novel set in a place inspired by Ísafjörður, Iceland.
