Does Iceland face a looming energy crisis? Are we prepared for the energy transition? Despite abundant renewable energy resources, Iceland faces significant challenges. From regional transmission failures to the clash over new power projects and growing demand for electricity, Iceland's energy infrastructure is facing a perfect storm.
In this week's Vísindaport, CRD Academic Director Morgan Greene explores the technical, economic and political bottlenecks of the current system. The talk, titled "Is there any energy crisis in Iceland? or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Nuclear," will break down the realities of the grid, legal delays, and what options remain for a secure energy future.
Morgan Greene is the Academic Director of the masters' program in Coastal Communities and Regional Development. He holds an MSc from the Energy Science from Reykjavík University and is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Business and Economics at Reykjavík University. Morgan Greene's research interests include public perception, the politics of the energy transition, and participation in energy markets. Prior to his job as Academic Director, Morgan Greene worked as a program and development manager for the Iceland School of Energy at Reykjavík University.
The presentation will take place in the cafeteria at the University Centre of the Westfjords and will start at 12:10.
