On Monday, November 24, exam season at the Icelandic universities begins, and Westfjords distance students will make their way to the University Centre to take their exams.
Everyone enrolled in Icelandic universities has the option of taking their exams at UW free of charge. The only thing distance students need to do is register for a remote exam with their own university and then contact the UW project manager to notify them. The process for registering for remote exams varies between universities, so it is best to contact your school’s student registry for instructions.
Westfjords university students can take their exams not only in Ísafjörður; the UW project manager also oversees remote exams that students wish to take in Hólmavík and Patreksfjörður, in cooperation with Fræðslumiðstöð Vestfjarða and Strandabyggð.
We remind distance students to bring all the technical equipment they need for the exam, such as a computer, headphones for listening exams, and calculators, as these cannot be borrowed at the exam locations. However, we do provide internet access and service with a smile, in the hope that it will make life a little easier for stressed university students during exam season. We also remind students that any requests for special accommodations must come through their university (not directly from students), but we do everything in our power to meet these special requests.
The autumn semester exams will be held every day from November 24 to December 16, usually both before and after noon. In recent years, an average of 80 individuals have come to Ísafjörður, Hólmavík, and Patreksfjörður to take around 200 exams, so it is safe to say exam season is busy season.
We ask our students and visitors to move quietly through the University Centre of the Westfjords during these days, so as not to disturb those taking exams.
