Vigur: A small island journey towards sustainability
As a tiny island situated at the heart of Ísafjarðadjúp, Vigur has a cultural and natural heritage recognised and valued both nationally and internationally. Current owners, managers and residents of the island, Felicity Aston and Gísli Jónsson, will present an overview of developments on Vigur since 2020 and their focus for the island’s future. This will include an introduction to the newly established Vigur Island Foundation and the SMILO (Small Islands Organisation) Sustainable Islands certification process - a community-led system designed to improve the sustainable management of resources on small islands in the areas of water and sanitation, waste, energy, biodiversity, landscapes and heritage.
There will be opportunity after the presentation to ask questions and an additional meeting for those interested in further details of the SMILO Sustainable Islands development process on Vigur.
The presentation will take place in the cafeteria at the University Centre of the Westfjords and will start at 12:10. The presentation will also be streamed via a Zoom link, which can be found here: https://eu01web.zoom.us/j/69947471079
