Monthly rent

Master’s students

  • Ground floor studio apartments: ISK 139,000 per month
  • Second floor studio apartments: ISK 139,000 per month
  • Couple’s apartment (second floor only): ISK 180,700 per month
    (30% additional charge on the standard monthly rent)

Security Deposit

A security deposit of ISK 139,000 (equivalent to one month’s standard rent) is required.

  • The deposit must be paid before May 31st.
  • The deposit is separate from the monthly rent.
  • It will be refunded in full if the apartment is returned clean, empty, and without damage.

The deposit requirement applies only to students who:

  • have received an acceptance letter from UW
  • have been offered student housing.

Housing benefits

Tenants who have an Icelandic ID number (kennitala) and a registered rental agreement may be eligible to apply for housing benefits.

Housing benefits are monthly payments intended to help cover the cost of renting residential housing, including student housing and private rentals.

The amount depends on income and household circumstances and may be up to approximately ISK 50,000 per month.

Student housing is primarily available to Master’s students at UW. Short-term housing may occasionally be available. If you are interested in a short-term rental, please contact us at studentagardar@uw.is for information about current availability and prices.
