Research at the University Centre of the Westfjords is primarily focused on the topics in the Coastal Studies masters programs. Masters student theses form the majority of the research activity at UW. Outside of masters theses, UW staff and teachers are engaged in their own research and also serve as hosts to visiting researchers and offer support as associated partners in other projects.

The research manager at UW, Dr. Catherine Chambers, oversees general research activities such as letters of cooperation, grant applications, laboratory facilities, data and/or equipment sharing agreements, and publishing guidelines and outreach.
