Ole Wæver holds a Ph.D. (1997) and M.A. (1985) in political
science from the University of Copenhagen). He was a visiting
researcher at the Dept of Politics at the University of California
2005-2006 and is a professor if international relations at the
Department of Political Sciense at the University of Copenhagen.
1996-1998 hel held a two year SSRC/MacArthur post-doc Fellowship in
Peace and Security in a Chan¬ging World. One year visiting at
University of California at Berkeley. He is the director of the Danish
Ph.D School in political science and was the editor in chief 2002-2005
of the journal Politik. He is currently on the editorial board for
Journal of Politics, International Studies Perspectives, Militært
Tidsskrift, Cambridge Review of Internationa Affairs and IPS,
International Political Sociology. He was elected to the Royal Danish
Academy of Sciences and Letters in 2007.
Ole Wæver’s main research interests are: theories of international
relations; conceptual history and IR; the concept of security;
sociology of science/history of science; the conditions for IR theory
beyond the West; theories of security (including securitization
theory); European security; discourse analysis as foreign policy
theory; the theory of regional security complexes; German
national/state identities and foreign policy; early American history;
nationalism and other identities in a security perspective; religion,
secularism and security; Danish defence policy; identities and
co-operation among the Nordic countries; region-building in the new
Europe and especially around the Baltic Sea; how to teach theories of
International Relations in a ‘post-international’ age.
