The policy context facing coastal communities is increasingly global in nature. This course analyses the global forces and institutions shaping that reality and their impact at the local level.


Upon completion of this course, students

  • can describe the complex global policy context facing local coastal communities in remote areas.
  • will be able to analyse the impact of decisions on a national and international level on local rural communities in remote regions.
  • are able to use a set of methods to independently analyse impacts of global decisions on local rural communities.
  • will have developped their critical thinking, written and verbal communication skills, through course assignments.
