Education and Labour Markets

CCRD06 Elective 4 ECTS
Period 2 weeks 03.05.2021 - 14.05.2021
Instructor Dr. Anna Guðrún Edvardsdóttir

The course explores the characteristics of labour markets and education policies with a focus on regional development. Students will learn about the challenges regarding undiversified labour markets and the so called “brain drain” that rural and remote communities are confronted with. The role of (higher) education in remote settings will also be addressed.

On completion of the course, a student:

  • has the ability to explain the characteristics and constraints on labour markets and education policy in remote regions.
  • has the ability to critically examine how education policy in remote regions serves the labour market.
  • can participate and facilitate group discussions about the course content as well as crafting and delivering effective presentations.
  • can develop a small scale research project about an existing regional development scenario.
