CMM featured on UMB´s website

Recently the CMM masters program at the University Centre of the Westfjords was featured on the website of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB). Earlier this year professor Morten Edvardsen, from UMB, taught "Planning of Coastal and Marine Regions" in the CMM masters program at the University Centre.

Lunch Lecture: The Rural Novels of Jón Kalman Stefánsson

In the Lunch Lecture Friday October 23, Ingi Björn Guðnason will talk about authors Þórbergur Þórðarson and Halldór Laxness and how they are portrayed in a recent rural trilogy by Jón Kalman Stefánsson.

Pot-luck dinner

On Friday October 16, students from the prepatory, nursing, distance learning and CMM programs came together to enjoy a pot-luck dinner.

Field Trip to Flateyri

Last week, the CMM students went on a short field trip to the fishing village of Flateyri, in connection to their latest course, Society and Natural Resources. Guðrún Pálsdóttir, who runs a fish drying and tourism company in Flateyri, guided the group around the village. She shared, with the students, insight into the history of the village and the economic and infrastructure development that took place after the big avalanches in 1995.

Adventurous Sailboat Field Trip

On Friday afternoon, September 13 , it was windy and grey, the new students in the master s program in Coastal and Marine Management gathered to sail for the weekend. The group sailed out of Ísafjörður harbor, aboard sailboats Britt and Aurora, heading for Jökulfirðir in the nature reserve of Hornstrandir.

The theater production year in the Westfjords

Theater life in the Westfjords is very lively these days. The annual theater festival Act Alone, and numerous theatrical productions attest to that fact.

Northern Periphery Programme Partner Meeting

The University Centre took part in a collaborative meeting held at Höfn, September 21-22, 2009. The purpose of the meeting was to build networks between the players in the Icelandic NPP project, to address matters concerning project execution, administration, communication, and also to give the participants an opportunity to present their respective ongoing projects.
