World Oceans Day

The World Oceans Day is celebrated around the world every June 8. Originally Canada proposed this day at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janerio, Brazil in 1992 and in 2008 the United Nations recognized it officially. Since then it has been coordinated internationally by The Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network on a global scale with great success and participation each year.

Further information about the day can be found at the links above and on Wikipedia.
