Student group from the University of Manitoba hosted by the University Centre
A student group from the University of Manitoba, Canada, is being hosted by the University Centre. This is the third year in a row we have hosted a group from this school lead by Dr. Birna Bjarnadóttir, a teacher and director of the Icelandic Department at the University of Manitoba.
The students´ residence in Iceland has included courses about Icelandic culture, with an emphasis on the connection to nature and the environment. The schedule for the student group consists of lectures, visits to museums, guided hikes through the region of the Saga of Gísla and watching a monologue by actor and director Elfar Logi Hannesson about the saga. They have also been to Vatnsfjörður where there are ongoing archeological excavations as well as an archeology field school during summer.
This student group came to Iceland on July 7 and will be staying here until July 31, they are spending two weeks here in the Westfjords. We look forward to Birna returning to the Westfjords with a new group next summer.
