Slides from the Symposium

A successful symposium on Coastal Zone Management and Marine Spatial Planning came to an end Friday September 4, with lectures given by two of our foreign guests, Lorrain Gray from NAFC Marine Centre in the Shetland Islands, and Claire M. O´Neill from the Cinqe Terra National Park in Italy.

During the symposium Rodrigo Menafra, instructor at the University Centre of the Westfjords, also gave a lecture on Integrated Coastal and Marine Management in Canada, in addition to several Icelandic specialists from The University Centre of the Westfjords, The University of Iceland, Matís Icelandic Food Research, The National Energy Authority, Environment Agency of Iceland, National Planning Agency, Eik planning agency, Sjávarútvegsþjónustan consultants' and from the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture. This diverse group of lecturers provided a broad view of the complexity of coastal zone management and planning. One of the goals of the symposium was to give an overview of the management regimes of Icelandic coastal zones and their outcomes and results, while also giving insight into how these matters are handled in other countries.

For those interested in the symposium, we have posted the PowerPoint slides from the symposium and three group presentations given by the master's students of the CMM program.
