Prime minister visits UW
Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir visited the University Centre earlier today. Katrín met with staff members and also managed to make time for a short visit to the classroom of our ongoing Icelandic Course. Peter Weiss, director of UW, gave the minister a tour of the Vestrahús building, visiting the multiple research and development institutions that are housed under the same roof as the University Centre.
Katrín is in Ísafjörður today to give a talk at the Tungumálatöfrar symposium held in Edinborg Cultural Centre. The symposium is on language and education for multi-lingual children in connection with the Tungumálatöfrar summer course for bilingual children. The University Centre supports this project in many ways, for example by offering staff members of Tungumálatöfrar office space at UW.
It is always a pleasure to have politicians visit the University Centre, to update on the activities of the University Centre. Due to the ongoing pandemic, there were unfortunately no such visits the past one and a half year. The prime minster is therefore also the first government official to visit UW after offices, classrooms and the library been renovated. These modifications were necessary due to the continuous growth of UW´s master’s programs
