Participation on the Icelandic Science Committee on Climate Change
Today two of our staff members are taking part in the Icelandic Science Committee on Climate Change seminar on social impacts of climate change. The climate change science committee was appointed by the Icelandic Ministry of the Environment and is tasked with creating a report for the government on the latest science on climate change and its potential impacts. In the 5th seminar, experts in the social sciences will discuss the status of knowledge and future areas for research in the broad fields of social aspects and impacts of climate change in Iceland.
Dr. Matthias Kokorsch, Program Director in Coastal Communities and Regional Development will present the CliCNord Project in a talk entitled. "Avalanche risk and place attachment - living with uncertainty." Dr. Catherine Chambers, Research Manager, will present data from a recent project exploring the impacts of extreme weather events on fisheries and aquaculture in the Westfjords.
While climate change impacts still contain many uncertainties, research like Matthias' and Catherine's helps to add valuable knowledge for future adaptations.
