Open Weekend Course on Conflict Resolution

During the last weekend of June (Saturday and Sunday June 26-27), the University Centre of the Westfjords will host a weekend course in conflict resolution with emphasis on resource management in a wider context. The course will be taught in English, and is open for external participants for a small fee. The course is scheduled from 9am to 3pm both days. The aim of the course is to inform participants about natural resource related conflict resolution in extreme situations. Teaching will be based on lectures and practical sessions. Participants will receive a certificate. The course is taught by Páll Ásgeir Davíðsson LL.M. from Columbia University, New York .

Páll Ásgeir Davíðsson holds a cand. jur. degree from the Faculty of Law at the University if Iceland and an LL.M. degree from Columbia University in New York. He has more than a decade of experience working with leading international organisation on human rights, business and security. Páll founded and directs Ethikos, the Icelandic Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). As a teacher, he has developed and taught classes on human rights and business as well as a class on international law with focus on international peace and security at the School of Law at Reykjavík University, Iceland. Since 2007, Páll has been a visiting professor at Fordham University in New York, USA, where he teaches classes on human rights and business. Páll has extensive experience working for the United Nations in conflict zones, notably in respect of promoting justice and mitigating the negative impact of business in DR of Congo. There conflict resolution in connection with exploitation of natural resources is critical for achieving sustainable peace.
