New Staff
Hanna Lára Jóhannsdóttir and Ingibjörg Rósa Björnsdóttir are new Marketing and Web Managers at the University Centre of the Westfjords. They will each hold half a position, replacing Ingi Björn Guðnason who’s going on a one year leave.
Born and bred in Ísafjörður, Hanna Lára has been living and studying in Reykjavík for the past few years. She holds a BS degree in psychology from the University of Iceland and is close to finishing a postgraduate degree in Marketing and International Business. Hanna has long dreamt of returning to Ísafjörður after her studies to get to live in the beautiful landscapes that this region is made of.
„I always knew I‘d return one day, it was just a question of when. The people around me have said it‘s an exciting move and many of them are open to moving to the countryside too.“
Hanna has experience in working in tourism where she organized tours and managed social media. She has also held various jobs along with her studies and is now taking half a position as Marketing and Web Manager while writing her Master's Thesis.
Ingibjörg Rósa is initially from the South of Iceland but has been living abroad for the last decade. She holds two MA degrees from the University of Iceland, in English and Journalism and Mass Communication, and has worked at Morgunblaðið and mbl.is, RÚV News and The Reykjavík Grapevine amongst other media outlets.
She been a freelancer in Britain where she has lived for the past few years, as well as teaching part-time at the University of Iceland and Bifröst University. Ingibjörg has also organised events such as a stand-up comedy festival and concerts in Iceland and recently opened an online clothes shop.
„I completely fell for the Westfjords when attending a wedding in Ísafjörður in 2009 so the following summer I rented a house in Bolungarvík for a month to get to know the area better. Since then, a lot has improved, more tunnels have opened and I’ve followed the upswing in Westfjords closely, not the least the University Centre, so I’m really excited to have been given this opportunity.”
