New Board of UW
At the Annual General Meeting of the University of the Westfjords, held on May 22, a new board was elected. Halldór Halldórsson who has been the chairman of the board from the founding of the University Centre stepped down at the meeting after 10 years of service. Halldór will not go far since he will still sit as an auxiliary member of the board. Jóna Finnstdóttir who has served as a board member for six years also stepped down at the meeting. New board members are Harpa Grímsdóttir, appointed by Ísafjörður Municipality and Elísabet Gunnarsdóttir elected by the representative body.
The new board held its first meeting on Friday June 5. As is common when it comes to UW board meetings it took place via phone conference since a part of the board members are not living in Ísafjörður. It fell upon the senior board member Stefán B. Sigurðsson to chair the first meeting. On the agenda of the meeting was to select a chairman of the board for the next two years. The board concluded that Stefán B. Sigurðsson would chair the board the first year and the second year Harpa Grímsdóttir would succeed him for the following year. Kristján G. Jóakimsson was elected the board’s registrar.
