Lunch Lecture: Shaping the Society

In this week's Lunch Lecture Ólöf Guðný Valdimarsdóttir talkes about the decision-making process in land-use changes, especially with respect to change of hitherto unused, wild land to a human-created environment. She will go into the planning process and the conditions of construction projects and other realizations for which a special permit is required. Also, Ólöf Guðný will show examples of different buildings designed under the same formula of land-use plan. In the end of the lecture there will be room for discussion.

 

Ólöf Guðný Valdimarsdóttir is an architect from Århus School of Architecture (Denmark), and holds additionally a diploma in mass communications from University of Iceland. Through her own design studio Plan 21 she has for many years given consultancy in planning and constructing to both individuals as well as companies and municipalities. During the last years, Ólöf Guðný has amongst other things been active in planning and design of buildings in China together with her husband, Björn S Hallsson, architect. Apart from that, she has been involved in numerous projects in Iceland, as for example the renovation of Microsoft Iceland's head quarters. Recently, Ólöf Guðný took up the job of building inspector of Ísafjord municipality, a position, she has experience of from other municipalities before.

 

UWestfjords lunch lectures are open for the public and start on Fridays at 12.10. This lecture will be given in Icelandic.
