Insect Farming for Aquaculture
In this week´s Lunch Lecture, November 21., Sigríður Gísladóttir from Víur Ltd. will discusse cultivation of the black soldier fly. The company Víur is now preparing production of insects for fish farms. The intention is to cultivate black soldier fly larvae from organic waste to produce fish feed.
In her lecture, Sigríður will discuss insect breeding, consumption and use of insects, the need for new protein sources in the world and Iceland‘s potential to participate in the Insect Revolution.
Sigríður Gísladóttir is a veterinarian from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science and also holds a degree in agriculture from the Agricultural University of Iceland.
Lunch Lecture is open for the public and starts at 12:10 in the University Centre cafeteria. The talk will be in Icelandic.
