How toxic is your food?

In this weeks Lunch Lecture, February 14, Dr. Pernilla Carlsson teacher in the Coastaland Marine Management program, will talk about POPs in your food.

We have persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in most of our food items. The same food items contain lots of healthy minerals and vitamines, so we need to balance the diet. However, thanks to bans and regulations, the concentrations of POPs in our food decrease. Some food items are still of concern, while the nutrient benefits from other food items are more important than the backdraw of POPs present in them.

Pernilla Carlsson holds a PhD degree from the University Centre in Svalbard. Her PhD thesis title is Selective uptake processes of environmental pollutants induced by climate changes.

The Lunch Lecture is open for the public, starting at 12:10 in the University Centre cafeteria. The talk will be in English but the slides in Norwegian.
