'Hosting a foreign student a rewarding experience'
This year there were altogether 18 students in the group, most of them 20 years of age. Hosts were families of all sizes, from single people to very big families, in Ísafjörður, Hnífsdalur and Bolungarvík. Our hosts turned out to be very inviting, anxious to show their house guests what the area has to offer. Students were taken on tours, hiking, swimming and to local museums; they were invited to concerts and museums. They also got the opportunity to try Icelandic delicatessen like dried fish, fermented shark, minke whale and smoked lamb. Both hosts and guests were very happy with these new acquaintances and host families agreed that this was certainly a very rewarding experience and something they would recommend to others. Another SIT group is scheduled next summer and after this positive experience we can only look forward to welcoming a new SIT group students offering them homestays.
