Green Energy in Marine-related Activities
The Westfjords is the perfect place to explore energy transitions in the marine sector. The University Centre of the Westfjords has signed a joint agreement called the Westfjords Green Energy Cluster, which is lead by the Blámi energy transition project, and also includes the local high school Menntaskólinn á Ísafjörður, the local energy company Orkubú Vestfjarða, the Westfjords Regional Development Office Vestfjarðastofa, and the Þrymur machine workshop.
By bringing together local institutions and companies, the goal is to build up a knowledge base that can aid in developing and utilizing green energy in marine-related activities. UW will aid in knowledge exchange by connecting students and other specialists to the Cluster’s activities. The Westfjords Green Energy Cluster will not only reduce emissions but also result in a diverse and strong economy, investment in innovation, and increased competitiveness in the Westfjords region.
