Everyone enjoyed a successful 3-week beginners’ course in Icelandic
The past three weeks we had an ambitious group of language students here. From all over the world they came to Ísafjörður to learn Icelandic. For some of them it was the first course while others had some previous knowledge in Icelandic.
Their main teacher was Jón Bjarni Atlason, an experienced Icelandic teacher who has taught at the University Center before.
We always try to keep teaching rich in variety and make the most of the time. In addition to the morning classes, we offered grammar time, movie nights, pronunciation exercises, knitting evenings, pancake baking, poetry and first aid to the students. We even took a trip Haukadal, the setting of the famous Gísli – Saga, where students watched to the one-man show about Gísli by Elfa Logi Hannesson.
After all the hard work our students received a proper Farwell where everyone received a confirmation of participation.
With little time to rest, we continue with a two – week intermediate course. A total of sixty students find their way to Ísafjordur this summer to learn this beautiful language. This is great!
