Environmental Issues - Franlkin University Field School
This morning the University Centre welcomed the second field school group from Franklin University Switzerland, an American liberal arts institution located in Lugano.
These undergraduate students visit Iceland to participate in a field course, 'Understanding Env Issues: Iceland'. In this course several case studies are used to explore the interdisciplinary nature of today’s environmental issues. During a four-day long stay in Ísafjörður, the students get introduced to the activities of the Westfjord energy company and they will learn about environmental issues and sustainability on a municipal level, but also how these matters are handled by local companies, such as the fish industry. The programme also offers insights into culture and the students will e.g. get a presentation of Norse paganism.
The group‘s Programme Director is Prof. Brack Hale has previously visited Ísafjörður several times. Besides teaching environmental sciences Prof. Hale is an enthousiastic linguist and has participated in courses in Icelandic language here at the University Centre.
We are very happy to accommodate Prof. Hale and his new group hoping that they will enjoy their stay.
