EIA and SEA Course Concludes

This week the course Environmental Assessment (EIA and SEA), in the CMM master's program, comes to an end. Like the past few years the course is taught by two environmental management specialists, Gunnar Páll Eydal from Eik - Planning and Environmental Consulting and Ólafur Árnason from EFLA Consulting Engineers.

In the first week of the course students received a presentation about avalanches from the Avalanche Research Centre of the Icelandic Meteorological Office, based in Ísafjörður. The presentation was followed with discussions about avalanches in terms of planning and the environmental impact of development projects such as avalanche defense structures.

After the presentations students, along with instructor Gunnar Páll Eydal, went on a short field trip to look at some of the avalanche defense structures in the area along with some other structures for example breakwater structures along the coast of the town.

Next week the course Tourism Policy and Planning in Coastal Areas will begin, taught by Professor Marc L. Miller from University of Washington, Seattle, USA.
