People all over the world participate in 350.org. Iceland's antipodes in Coffs Harbour, Australia formed a large 350 sign on their beach in 2009. Our students hope that people in Ísafjörður will do the same on October 10. Photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/350org/
The students have already participated in weeding one of Ísafjörður's flower beds with Ísafjarðarbær municipality's Umhverfisfulltrúi (Environmental Engineer), Ralf Trylla. Ralf has worked closely with the student since the beginning and has been a great asset. On Saturday September 25th, the students are teaming up with the Ægir students' association to help with the local leg of the international Coastal Cleanup Day. Around one ton of waste was collected around Ísafjörður! Next week a smaller group of students are heading to Flateyri to run an in-class workshop on sustainability with some of the local children. The hope is to include all the local school and have as many children participate as possible.
Perhaps the most exciting event planned for 10/10/10 is the free screening of the documentary "Future of Hope" and a personal visit from the film makers. Check out the
trailer here and the
Facebook site of the film.
[mynd 3 v]The Work Party events are still being organized and the students would love to hear from locals with any ideas or suggestions. At the end of the day the students are organizing a community photo to be published on 350.org's website and would like everyone to attend!
