Announcement of new board
At the Annual General Meeting of the University Centre of the Westfjords on May 29, a new board was elected. Þorsteinn Gunnarsson, rector of the University of Akureyri and Soffía Vagnsdóttir, from the Municipality of Bolungarvík, left the board. Þorsteinn has been a board member since 2007 and has represented the rectors of the Universities in Iceland. Soffía has been a board member since the founding of the University Centre. They both played a significant role in the rapid growth of the University Centre of the Westfjords during the last few years and we thank them for their service.
In their place, Skúli Skúlason, rector of Hólar University College, representing the rectors, and Jóna Finnsdóttir, managing director of the Icelandic Academy of Arts, have been newly elected to the board. Current members of the board who will continue to serve are Halldór Halldórsson, chairman of the board and the mayor of Ísafjörður municipality, Jóhann Sigurjónsson, director of The Marine Institute of Iceland and Kristján G. Jóakimsson of the HG fishing company.
