Margrét Björk Arnardóttir is the Director of Education and Teaching at the University Centre of the Westfjords and has been in-post since January 2018. She holds a master's degree in career counseling and guidance from the University of Iceland and a BA degree in social work from University College Lillebælt in Denmark. Before Margrét joined the University Centre, she worked as an school counselor at Árskóli in Sauðárkrókur, Iceland. She has also worked at Farskólinn a centre for continuous education for the North West of Iceland and at Hólar University College.

The Director of Education and Teaching assists students in Marine Innovation in preparing their own teaching schedules, alongside their advisors, as well as supervising the schedules and ensuring they are followed.

The University Centre Director of Education and Teaching also has the following roles:

  • To works with distance learning students, either in everyday courses or examinations
  • Keep track of examinations taken at the University Centre
  • Perform an advisory function to university students in the Westfjords
  • Keep track of current and past master’s students
  • Managecontracts, paymentsandtravel arrangementsfor master’s program teachers
  • Organize open lunchtime guest lectures
  • Sit on the program committee of Marine Innovation students

At the beginning of the program, each student is appointed two personal advisors: one from the Innovation Centre and an academic advisor. It is possible to swap instructors in co-operation with all stakeholders, if the focus of the innovation project changes. The student creates a teaching schedule with the advisors and the University Centre Director of Education and Teaching. Each schedule takes previous education and the student’s innovation idea into account. At the same time, the schedule must ensure all learning outcomes are met. The Director of Education and Teaching supervises the teaching schedules and ensures they are followed. The Master’s program committee must approve all teaching schedules, and changes made to them.
