Timothy Heleniak is a Senior Research Fellow at Nordregio, the Nordic Centre for Spatial Development, an institution under the Nordic Council of Ministers. He has published extensively in the areas of migration, population change, and regional development in the Arctic, the Nordic countries, and Russia and the other states of the former Soviet Union.. He was previously the Editor of the journal Polar Geography and is Series Editor of the Routledge Research in Polar Regions. Prior to coming to work at Nordregio, he worked at George Washington University, the United Nations Childrens Fund, the World Bank, and the U.S. Census Bureau. He previously taught at Geogetown University in Washington, DC. He has a PhD in Geography and MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland (USA) and a BA in Sociology from Eastern Washington University (USA).
