Students should themselves evaluate whether a beginners course or an intermediate course is more beneficial to their progress in learning Icelandic and apply accordingly!
Please inform yourself about the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR) and check out the self-assessment grid in order to profile your language skills.
We expect you to be a user on A2 level when entering the intermediate course. According to the official CEFR guidelines, someone at the A2 level:
- Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
- Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
- Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
