Richard Jenkins is Professor of Sociology at the University of Sheffield. Trained as a social anthropologist at Queen's Belfast and Cambridge, he carried out field research in Belfast, the West Midlands and South Wales, before turning his attention to Denmark. His interest in Denmark was aroused during a visit to Århus as a Visiting Professor in 1992, during the public debate surrounding Denmark's ratification of the EU's Maastricht Treaty. In 2008, he took up a three-year Visiting Professorship in Anthropology at the Danish School of Education of the University of Århus, as well as a visiting post at the Danish Social Research Institute (Socialforskningsinstitut) in Copenhagen.

Valdimar J. Halldórsson finished his studies in Social Anthropology at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, in 1992 and has done fieldwork in India, Malawi in Africa, as well as in Copenhagen, Denmark, before he turned back to Iceland and became a director of the Museum of Jón Sigurðsson (1811-1879). In 2006, Valdimar and The Museum of Jón Sigurðsson established international summer courses at Hrafnseyri in association with the University Centre of Westfjords.
