HSES stands for "Húsnæðissjálfseignarstofnun" or Private Foundation for Housing. The HSES for UW was established on 16 August 2022 and its purpose is to administrate the construction and management of the new students' housing for the University Centre of the Westfjords. UW is the sole founder and contributed 1 million ISK capital.

UW also nominated 8 people from the Westfjords on the HSES' council of representatives, all whom have diverse back ground as the aim was to have a broad spectrum of the local community on the council. Four representatives of residents were also nominated on the council, they are all either current or former students of UW.
