World Light – World Song
A symposium on Iceland's greatest martyr, a gifted Swan princess and the medical doctor who composed the most beautiful songs, organized by the University of Manitoba in collaboration with the University Centre of the Westfjords.
A three-day event featuring:
- Literary symposium on the connection between nature, society and literature, where writers and scholars meet. Among the lecturers you will find Dr. Gauti Kristmannsson, docent in Aesthetics end translations at the University of Iceland; graduate students from the Icelandic Department of the University of Manitoba; Guðfinna Hreiðarsdóttir, historian and Halldór Guðmundsson, writer, scholar and former publisher.
- Evening concert featuring Eyjólfur Eyjólfsson, tenor and Ingunn Sturludóttir, mezzosoprano, at Hamrar Music Hall, Ísafjörður.
- Scenic one-day hike along one of the traditional Westfjord routes, the Álftafjarðarheiði heath with hiking guide.
- Sailing in the Ísafjarðardjúp with a stop in the island Vigur. We will take a walk around part of the island and enjoy the rich birdlife, the view and the nature. Lunch will be served in one of the historical buildings and there will be a musical performance by Peter John Buchan, tenor.
