The University Center of the Westfjords is excited to host CoastGIS2018 and looks forward to welcoming you in Ísafjördur. For over 10 years, our small institution in the very northwest of Iceland has been bringing together people from around the world to engage in an exchange of knowledge.

The center itself only employs an average of seven people, but with additional freelance instructors from Iceland and abroad, we operate an international master’s program in Coastal and Marine Management, offer a small individualized program of study in Marine Innovation, serve distance learning students, cooperate with various field schools, and accomplish a variety of language courses each year.

The University Center focuses on academic quality, seeks local, regional and international cooperation, and encourages an active dialogue across disciplines. Being part of a small community, we advocate for a holistic approach, bringing researchers and practitioners together while valuing local circumstances and the culture of this place. We take pride in bringing students, teachers, and researchers to this remote location to create a small but unique learning environment.
