How to apply

All students wishing to study the full programmes must apply online using the University of Akureyri Communication Portal. Each application is reviewed holistically by several members of our admission committee.

Your application will be considered complete when we have the following:

1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) – A complete and recent CV in English (pdf).

2. Letter of intent – A statement of your objectives, fields of interest and expectations regarding the studies. Why do you think UW might be a good fit for you? Through the admission process we hope to get to know you as an individual.

3. Official transcripts of academic work* - Certified transcript may be e-mailed directly from the registry to applications@uw.is or sent by post to the University Centre, Suðurgata 12, 400 Ísafjörður, Iceland. Please note that all applicants must submit certified transcripts in addition to the documents uploaded with the application.

4. Two recommendations - References must be send by the refering person to applications@uw.is. Referees may write a personal letter of evaluation or complete this reference form. At least one of the referees should be able to judge your academic performance.

5. Certification of English Language proficiency (if applicable). It is anticipated that applicants from Iceland, Scandinavia and the English-speaking countries possess adequate skills in the language. Other applicants must demonstrate sufficient English skills on CEFR level C1 which is equivalent to TOEFL 95 and IELTS 7-7,5.

6. A copy of your passport (pdf/jpg)- it is required by the application portal.

Use these instructions if you need help navigating the communication portal. Please note, if you want to change your application or add documents, the application must be submitted again. Supporting documents may also be sent to applications@uw.is

! Please make sure to switch to the english version of the application portal - and not let the browser translate.

* A certified transcript is a document issued by the educational institution on its official paper, signed and certified by the institution with the institution’s stamp. Graduation transcripts with electronic signature sent directly from the relevant university or an official e-transcript via a secure third-party electronic system are accepted.

If you'd like to share an official transcript using an electronic system register the email address applications@uw.is and choose the longest possible time for the document to be available. We will then add your transcript to the application you have submitted.

We reserve the right to request additional information and/or the original documents. If a document/statement is not in English a translation may be required. We do not accept transcript in other languages than Icelandic or English or transcripts you have translated yourself.

Further inqueries about the application process may be sent to applications@uw.is or info@uw.is.
