In order to be eligible for admission to UW, you must:
- have been awarded a Bachelor's degree with first grade from an internationally recognised university.
- be able to demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or the equivalent. It is anticipated that applicants from Iceland, Scandinavia and the English-speaking countries possess adequate skills in the language.
If you do not (yet) meet the admission requirements, you can still apply. Small deficiencies in meeting our requirements or the lack of documents will not prevent your application from being reviewed. If graduation is pending please provide a progress transcript and the intended date of graduation. UW may offer a place on a conditional basis. The conditions will be specified in the letter offering you a place. You will have to meet those conditions before you can be admitted.

* Please note that non-EU/EEA citizens need to gather multiple documentations for visa and/or residence permits and we recommend to apply before the first deadline.
The annual registration fee for Coastal and Marine Management at the University Centre of the Westfjords is ISK 150,000 for Icelandic students and those from other EEA/EU countries, and for those who come from countries outside the EEA the registration is ISK 300,000.
Collection
The annual fee is collected for each academic year and should be paid by June 30 each year before the coming academic year begins. Students pay the annual fee after they receive a letter of admission.

How to apply
Your application will be considered complete when we have the following:
1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) – A complete and recent CV in English (pdf).
2. Letter of intent – A statement of your objectives, fields of interest and expectations regarding the studies. Why do you think UW might be a good fit for you? Through the admission process we hope to get to know you as an individual.
3. Official transcripts of academic work* - Certified transcript may be e-mailed directly from the registry to applications@uw.is or sent by post to the University Centre, Suðurgata 12, 400 Ísafjörður, Iceland. Please note that all applicants must submit certified transcripts in addition to the documents uploaded with the application.
4. Two recommendations - References must be send by the refering person to applications@uw.is. Referees may write a personal letter of evaluation or complete this reference form. At least one of the referees should be able to judge your academic performance.
5. Certification of English Language proficiency (if applicable). It is anticipated that applicants from Iceland, Scandinavia and the English-speaking countries possess adequate skills in the language. Other applicants must demonstrate sufficient English skills on CEFR level C1 which is equivalent to TOEFL 95 and IELTS 7-7,5.
6. A copy of your passport (pdf/jpg)- it is required by the application portal.

* A certified transcript is a document issued by the educational institution on its official paper, signed and certified by the institution with the institution’s stamp.
Official electronic transcripts may be emailed to UW to this email address: applications@uw.is. The email must be sent from the issuing institution’s official institutional email account and must belong to a person or office that is responsible for issuing official educational documents, for example: registrar’s office, controller of examinations, awards and graduation department etc. The attached document must be in PDF format and include the applicants name.
If you'd like to share an official transcript using an electronic system register the email address applications@uw.is and choose the longest possible time for the document to be available. We will then add your transcript to the application you have submitted.
We reserve the right to request additional information and/or the original documents. If a document/statement is not in English a translation may be required. We do not accept transcript in other languages than Icelandic or English or transcripts you have translated yourself.

All international students must register in Iceland or apply for a student permit depending on citizenship.
Students with citizenship outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) must apply for a student permit before arrival and be granted an approval from the Directorate of Immigration before traveling to Iceland. Students should apply for a residence permit immediately after receiving their acceptance letter from the University Centre of the Westfjords. A residence permit may be granted for as long as one year and it is the student's responsibility to apply for a renewal.

Citizens from EU/EEA/EFTA countries do not need to obtain a student residence permit to study in Iceland. Full-time students staying in Iceland for longer than six months, should register with the Registers Iceland. Through this application (A-271 EU-nationals / A-257 Nordic nationals) you will receive an Icelandic ID number "kennitala".
