Call for Papers on Educational Research

The annual symposium of The School of Education at the University of Iceland will be held September 30 2011 at the University of Iceland, Reykjavík. The deadline for paper submission is May 15 2011.

No Lunch Lecture this Week

Friday April 8 and Saturday April 9 the Symposium on Icelandic Social Sciences will be held in the University Centre of the Westfjords. Due to this there will be no Lunch Lecture on Friday. We encourage people to learn more about the many interesting lectures given on the symposium on it's website.

The Westfjords Cultural Council Grants

Grants for cultural projects in the Westfjords, from the Westfjords Cultural Council, are now open for applications. The deadline is April 14.

Symposium: Long Term Policy Making for Living Resources of the Ocean

A symposium on long term policy making for living resources of the ocean will be held by the Marine Research Institute of Iceland and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries at Hótel Loftleiðir in Reykjavík on Friday February 25 between 9:00 and 16:20.

Stray Birds from North America

Thursday February 24 at 12.15-12.45 Yann Kolbeinsson, biologist at the Natural History Institute of the North East of Iceland, will give a talk about stray birds from North America. The talk is in Icelandic and will be available via videoconference at the University Centre of the Westfjords and at the Research Centre in Bolungarvík.

A New Peer-Reviewed Journal on Icelandic Society

The Icelandic Sociologist Society announces the publication of a new peer reviewed journal, Íslenska þjóðfélagið. The Journal is published in an open access on the Internet. Further information available on our Icelandic.

No Lunch Lectures the next two weeks

This week, and the next students that are graduating from the Coastal and Marine Management program at the University Centre of the Westfjords will present and defend their master's theses. One presentation has already been held and on Friday January 28 the first defense will be held. Next week from Thursday to Tuesday, two defenses and two presentations will also be held. Due to this the Lunch Lectures on Friday January 28 and Friday February 4 will be postponed.

Accommodation for summer schools 2011

The University Centre of the Westfjords seeks accommodation for 80 students that will attend a three week Icelandic course in August 2011. Further information available in Icelandic.

Accommodation Needed

Three exchange students from the Netherlands are looking for accommodation in Ísafjörður. The students will start their studies February 14 and complete it July 1. The students would like to live together so they are looking for an apartment or housing with three bedrooms and with furniture.
