Applicants need to reserve accommodation on their own. Accommodation is not included in the course fee. Please notify the guesthouses in your inquiries to them that you are a student in our Icelandic Courses.

Litlabýli Guesthouse in Flateyri

Litlabýli is a cozy family run guesthouse in the center of Flateyri (20 km from Ísafjörður). They have space for up to 10 guests in a comfortable home with beautiful views of the mountains and fjord.

Holt Inn

Holt Inn is a family run hotel in the heart of Westfjords, only a 15 minute drive from Ísafjörður. The hotel used to be a school but now it has 11 newly renovated rooms with private bathroom. Each room has a view over the beautiful mountains of Önundarfjordur.

Getting from Reykjavík to Ísafjörður


1.  Air travel: There are normally two scheduled flights daily from Reykjavík to Ísafjörður. They can be booked online at www.airiceland.is. Flights leave from Reykjavík domestic airport, not from Keflavík airport. You will save considerably by booking in advance. Once you arrive in Ísafjörður, you can take the FlyBus from the airport directly to your final destination in Ísafjörður town for ISK 1.000. The bus to Ísafjörður waits outside the airport after every landed flight. 

2. Public bus: Summer schedule for 2020 not available yet. Please follow the Visit Westfjords Official Travell Guide website for information about the bus timetable. Please get confirmed timings before making plans.

3. Rent a car: There are a number of car rentals in Reykjavík and then you can drive from Reykjavík to Ísafjörður.  There are two road ways and the distance is about 460 km.
 

Getting back to Reykjavík after the course

1. By plane (see directions above). The airport bus is scheduled for every flight. Ask at your accomodation for details. 

2. Public bus (see directions above).

3. Rent a car: There are a number of car rentals in Ísafjörður and then you can drive from Ísafjörður to Reykjavík.  

The evenings and weekends are mostly free for your own activities.

Language students staying in Ísafjörður can wander the small streets of this historic town, explore the coastline and enjoy the beautiful nature all around. One can go to the pool, meet locals in the bakeries or coffehouses, learn about the Westfjords in the Cultural Heritage Museum, watch a movie in the cozy cinema, forget time in the museum of every day life, read a book at the local library, or climb up several mountains.

Near Isafjordur you can go horse-back riding, kayaking, bird watching, fjord-fishing, whale watching, go on guided quad tours, 4x4 (SUV) day trips and more. If you want to enjoy the outdoors, make sure to bring good hiking boots and outdoor clothing that is appropriate for the changeable weather.
